Crime Watch Procedure

PROCESS: Please call 911 THEN email Don & Barbara Averitt at averittd@swbell.net .  This will keep the neighborhood informed of both suspicious people and crimes committed.

HIGH ALERT ITEM:  One important item that was discussed at the annual meeting 2/28/06 was the recent rash of home break-ins. The report from the police was as follows: The culprits are students attending a DISD alternative school for disruptive students located in downtown Dallas.  They range in age from 11-16. They skip school and ride DART up to the Park Lane or Walnut Hill Dart station.  They typically knock on your door and, if you answer, they ask if so-and-so is home. Naturally you say so-and-so is not there as they are merely using a fake name in a ruse just to determine whether or not you are at home.  If they believe that you are not at home, then they break-in and steal your belongings. If you are at home, they pass your house bye and try the next one. They do not care if you have an alarm - they break open the window or door anyway.

THE POLICE REQUEST:  that we do two things:
1.     If these folks call at your door, acknowledge your presence. You should not open the door and talk to them, but rather use the intercom or speak through the door.
2.     Call 911 immediately.  The police have cars (both marked patrol cars and unmarked cars) in our area looking for these characters. The police have specifically asked that we call them on 911.
